successful components for creative copywriting

Some of my favorite people to write for are like-minded creatives. I have nothing against crafting text for other small businesses, however, it would be fair to say my heart lies in creative copywriting. There’s just something so satisfying in finding the right words to tell an artist’s story. Translating the work of creative entrepreneurs into vocabulary that speaks the same language as their craft is both exciting & rewarding.

When generating creative copy, I like to keep three main objectives in mind.

~Intent~

A usually clearly formulated or planned intention.
— Merriam Webster Dictionary

As a creative it’s easy to let the words flow, often too easy in fact. When we allow the writing to happen naturally, however, we have a tendency to stray from the goal of the copywriting, the core of its meaning. I believe that every phrase should be crafted intentionally & that each sentence should have purpose. I deliberately revisit the idea of writing with intent throughout a project, editing out words & phrases that fail to align with the significance of the text.

~Eloquence~

Discourse marked by force & persuasiveness,
also : the art or power of using such discourse.
— Merriam Webster Dictionary

Creative copywriting that recognizes how it wants the reader to feel & implements that same emotion throughout the text is excellent copy. Knowing who you’re writing for is key in practicing eloquence, as such, not all projects demand the same type of persuasive vocabulary. I always aim to connect with the audience when undertaking creative copywriting, which often requires really getting to know who I’m writing for & in turn, who that text is designed to entice.

~Spirit~

The feeling, quality, or disposition characterizing something.
— Merriam Webster Dictionary

Perhaps most important of all, I strive to accomplish creative copywriting that has spirit. Not just any spirit, but your spirit. The intention behind fusing writing with soul is to draw the audience in further, to make them feel compelled to learn more, to discover the person behind the brand. Approaching creative copywriting with this objective results in text that has personality & character, which, with any luck, will encourage the reader to connect.
