w h y c e Á R R ?

C E Á R R,  pronounced key-arr, comes from the ancient Scottish Gaelic language & translates to mean “left.” Beyond its immediate translation, however, is a much deeper connection with touching significance for writer & creator, Sarah Orman.

Born a mere ten-miles from the Scottish border, Sarah grew up in a household where family values were an important part of everyday life. Weekly excursions to visit her nearby Grandparents were commonplace & now 25 years on, fond visions of days spent with Alexander & Jean Kerr form treasured recollections of her childhood. Favorite memories include building furniture fortresses, reading classic fairytales, & relishing her Grandmother’s cooking, as well as being celebrated as the only other left-handed person in the family, a bond Sarah & her Grandma still share today.

At 91-years-old, Mrs. Jean Kerr continues to inspire the C E Á R R founder, which led to the exploration of Sarah’s maternal family name when pondering a suitable title for her writing venture. On discovering the name Kerr arises from the Gaelic word “ceárr” & that old legend believes the Scottish Kerr clan were principally left-handed, Sarah immediately settled upon a meaningful name for her creative writing company.
